I am trying to upgrade a v7 to v8 db. I have a copy of my v7 db where the new v8 software is installed. When I run convertdb I get the following error:

    VERSANT Utility CONVERTDB Version 8.0.2
    Copyright (c) 1988-2011 VERSANT Corporation

    WARNING:
Please make sure that the database is backed-up
    before proceeding with conversion.

    The error indicates either:

    a) The database is older than version 7.0.1. (A 7.0.0 database would trigger this error. Please note that 7.0.0 was an FCS-only release and should not have been used in production.)
    b) The physical log was not copied correctly from the original location when you made the database copy, as the version string is either more than 12 characters or contains a character other than digits and the period. This could happen due to an error in a file copy operation, using ASCII mode instead of binary during FTP, or because you are not using the same operating system (e.g. you cannot take a Versant 7 database on Linux and convert it to Versant 8 on Solaris - this is because Versant writes files in native byte order).

I just recognized your username and realized which company you're with. The problem is undoubtedly the OS issue - your version 7 installations are on Solaris and your version 8 installations on Linux. You cannot file-copy and convert directly. You have to either convert to VOD8-Solaris and then copy to the Linux machine with vcopydb, or copy to a VOD7-Linux installation with vcopydb and then convert to VOD8.

Yes, that is exactly what it is. Solaris to Linux. OK, I will try to upgrade on Solaris and then copy it over. Forgot about that.

    Thanks,

    Brian
